Learn to understand and love turtles.
Located in Garriguella, the centre is on the grounds of Santuari del Camp, 30 kilometres from the Mas El Brugué rural tourism house. The aim of the Albera Tortoise Breeding Centre is to breed Mediterranean tortoises, a species in serious danger of extinction, in captivity in order to reduce the high mortality rate of young tortoises in the wild and thus have a large number of specimens to release and promote the turtles.
The Centre also fulfils didactic functions, attracting families, groups and all kinds of people, teaching them to understand turtles and the Mediterranean forest, and not to capture or disturb these animals.
The centre also takes in exotic turtles to prevent them from being released into the wild and competing with and harming native populations.
Sponsor a turtle
Visitors and turtle lovers have the possibility to sponsor a turtle. Whoever does so will receive a diploma and information about the state and evolution of the turtle. You will also receive an entrance card to visit the centre whenever you wish.
What is the visit like?
The visit is quick, taking one or two hours, depending on how much time you spend in each area. There is also a very interesting audiovisual room.
